I know it has been a while but the beauty industry has been a little quiet over the past couple of weeks until now! Here is what has been happening while you have been shopping, eating and giving thanks!

The L’Oreal brand Biotherm has introduced Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester as the new Brand Ambassador. Just in case you are scratching your head and asking yourself who is Biotherm? They are a French brand of luxury skincare products for the face and body. They have been around for several years and the brand is very popular in China.

I think this is a great move for Biotherm to have a fresh international face that is well known with the millennial age group. She can bring a younger audience to an older brand.

Nordstrom Beauty Department gets a makeover! The look will be contemporary to make the customer have a more individualized experience. Brands will now have key and trend products grouped together and Nordstrom will offer a beauty concierge service to allow a fuller shopping experience with the products. They will also offer more trial sizes, makeup applications and consultations. Two flagships stores in California have been completed with more stores to follow.

Wow, this is a smart move for Nordstrom! With their outstanding customer service and beauty makeover, this will make them a top competitor with Sephora! I know Sephora will be on their “A game” but this is a race I intend on watching!

Supermodel and Beauty Maven Iman takes a leap into the CC Cream world! The brand has launched five CC Correct & Cover Powder to Crème Concealer shades. The powder to cream formula will offer more coverage than the BB Crème. The CC Crème will cost $15 and designed to balance the skin tone, color correct the complexion with great ingredients like amino acids, protein, vitamins B, C, and E and beta-carotene. The launch is scheduled for December 15th online and in stores January 1st like Walgreens and Target as well as ulta.com.

Well Ms. Iman, you definitely have my attention with those ingredients! I am excited and counting down the days to find my shade with your free app where I can snap my pic and find the shade that fits my skin tone!

MAC teams up with Disney! Yes, this is truly an OMG moment as it is the first time the makeup giant has teamed up with a motion picture! They will offer a limited edition collection from the upcoming Angelina Jolie film Mistress of All Evil – Maleficent of Sleeping Beauty. The limited edition line will include products for the face, eyes, lips and nails.

It sounds very interesting and I can’t wait to see the colors!

The sexy rapper Pitbull is set to launch a fragrance! He will unveil the fragrances at his concert on New Year’s Eve in Miami. There is a scent for men and women and they are titled none other then Pitbull! The scent will be sold on amazon.com from the launch until February 14th. He also has plans to expand the brand in the future with fashion, accessories and beauty products.

If this fragrance smells as sexy as he looks…it will be a best seller! LOL

L’Oreal is launching a product called Hairchalk for those of you who love to color and change your hair on a constant basis. The product will be available in eight colors ranging from pink, blue to bronze. It will be applied as a liquid and dry as a powder and priced at $36.65. It will be launched in the US in March 2014.

Dear L’Oreal, I am officially giving you the side eye o-O. This does not sound interesting or fun but I wish you luck!

Beauty Week in Review – My NYC Experience – part I

Hi Beauty Scholars!!! I am back from NYC and instead of sharing the usual Beauty Week in Review; I am going to share my beauty experience from my time in NYC. Don’t worry, there was not a lot going on in the world of beauty last week to report. My trip to NYC was far more exciting…LOL.

I flew to NYC on Tuesday and the first thing I wanted to do was head over to the Molton Brown store!!! This is one of my favorite bath and body brands because the smell and quality is just amazing!!! I wanted to see the new flagship store and of course, make a purchase…I know, I am a total sucker when it comes to products.

Anywho, I received great service from a guy (I can’t remember his name) and he was so patient with me as I smelled EVERYTHING in the entire store…LBVS!!! It was a little bit of an overload but I needed to find a new body wash to fall in love with :-). It was love at last smell with the Ambrusca Cleansing Shower Oil and Conditioning Body Lotion. The Cleansing Shower Oil not only lathers but also hydrates and tones the skin as well. It is a fresh floral smell that lingers with an amazing aroma. The Conditioning Body Lotion is hydrating and leaves the skin silky and smooth!!! Ah…it makes me heart shower time even more.

Wednesday: I went to an awesome holiday spotlight event hosted by beautypress.com where I was introduced to new brands and products. I was so excited to have one on one time with the owners of the brands and hear how passionate they are about their products. It was also good to know that I was not the only product junkie in the room…LOL.

I am glad that beautypress chooses to spotlight new brands and products as it helps me learn more information and pass the news on to you. Here are the brands that I had a chance to talk to:

Pour le Monde – A 100% natural, vegan Fragrance Company where every product shines a spotlight on some of the world’s most important charities. 10% of the sale of each fragrance is given back to a designated charity. The scents were amazing and my favorites were Envision and Together. I love how this brand is giving back on a continuous basis and how the names embrace giving!!!

Menaji – A Skincare brand for the confident man. They offer Face and Body Scrub, Deep Cleansing Masque, Power Hydrator Moisturizing Aftershave, Lip Agent, Eye Gel, Anti-Aging Eraser and Concealing High Definition Powder. Yes, ladies…your man can stop secretly using all your products and have his own stash with masculine packaging. If he’s not convinced that this brand is for him, just tell him athletes, celebrities and politicians use the products and it will help him put his best face forward!!!

M. Asam Cosmetics – A High-tech cosmetics brand made with tradition from Germany. The products are all about anti-aging with one of my favorite ingredients Grape Seed Extract. Although they had me at Grape Seed and anti-aging, I was impressed by how luxurious the products felt on my skin.

Savane – An Organic Skincare brand from South Africa. The products are rich with some of the most powerful natural antioxidants and essential Omega fatty acids. The brand believes in ethical sourcing and uses only sustainable harvested wild ingredients to protect biodiversity. They let me try a scrub on my hand that I was able to taste as well because of the natural ingredients and I must say it tasted pretty good. It left my skin feeling soft and supple; I can’t wait to try more products.

BioElixia – A range of skin and body care products that have been developed to firm the skin and contour and shape the body. I have not had a chance to try this product but I will and a review will follow. I received the Body Shaper Cellulite Contour Crème, which is scientifically proven to reduce the appearance of cellulite by an average of 57%.

Brocato Supersilk – A revolution in texture control to reduce frizz and loosen the curl pattern to make the hair more manageable. The Nano Silk Complex takes texture management beyond Keratin formulas of the past and makes the hair smooth and sleek. I received the complete system and I am excited to give it a try!!! I will let you know my thoughts in a review of course…LOL.

The day ended with a swag bag and an awesome cocktail party with a meet and greet of industry professionals. I had an amazing time and I am so excited that I was able to attend.

Hey Beauty Scholars!!! Welcome to the 3rd edition of the Beauty Week in Review!!! I do realize that this should be the 4th installment but the news in terms of beauty the week before was bleak to say the least…LOL!!! This week is a little livelier; so let’s get this party started!!!

Sephora Americas has a named Calvin McDonald as the new CEO.  Now this is interesting because McDonald comes from Sears Canada where he was the President and CEO. Don’t judge a book a by its cover until you know the whole story :-). McDonald has been very successful in Canada with Sears with positive store comp sales for three quarters in a row for the first time in seven years as well as his past success with other companies!!! So don’t worry Sephora loyalist…the company sounds it’s in great hands with more innovative thinking to come. Stay tuned…I know I will!!!

Beautystat.com re-launched its site with an ecommerce portion section added this week. The site was previously geared toward social networking and blogging but now, it has new features!!! You can create a profile, make a wish list, and purchase products, read reviews, pin products as well as other things. I like the new site but I also miss the old one. It is worth taking a ride or two around the block, so go check it out and let me know what you think!!!

Avon is taking a local stand for marketing and I love it!!! Instead of a one face fits all for beauty, they are looking to take local celebrities and keep the same product and advertising with a local message. This will position the brand to become more relevant to the culture in a particular market…i.e., US or Brazil. This totally makes sense to me and I am excited to see the end result!!! Good luck Avon!!!

Japonesque, who is the guru of beauty tools and best known for their tweezers, is expanding the brand with color cosmetics. WOW…this is super exciting. The date was set for October 27th in Ulta with 220 stores and to expand with another 150 doors in March. Side note: I think I am going to take a break and head over to my local Ulta for some beauty play time today…giggles!!! The products are priced from $18 -$36 with very vivid colors for the eyes, lips and face. FYI…if you live in the UK, the brand is also launching in John Lewis.

UK brand Rimmel is changing its focus to eyes. Mascara seems to be driving the overall sales for the brand so why not make it the focus. They are now ranked as the 4th largest mascara brand in the mass market!!! They have also updated the shadows; they have a cream formulation that is long lasting and easy to work with. Sounds like the eyes have it…LOL and I am going to see what they hype is all about with reviews to come…of course!!! 🙂

L’Oreal names Blake Lively as the new Brand Ambassador. This is exciting to me, as I really like Blake; I have loved her style since the 1st season of Gossip Girl (don’t judge me…she has style and the show was good) LOL.

The brand Toppik, best known for their hair fiber products, launches hair supplements for growth. They will be adding Hair Nutrition 2-in-1 Capsules and other products later this year that will also promote hair growth. Products are now available at Sally’s Beauty Supply, a 30-day supply for $19.95 and Ulta early next year. While I am not down with taking supplements, I am interested in the Toppik Hair Regrowth Treatment – a topical treatment to be launched next year!!!

Jay Z is set to launch his 1st fragrance for men. Well, it was only a matter of time as his wife Bey has experienced much success with her scents. November 20th is the launch date at Barney’s to be followed up with a November 29th date in Macy’s, Sephora, Nordstrom, Belk, Bon-Ton and Ulta. Just in time for the holiday season!!!

MAC names Rihanna as the new Viva Glam Spokesperson for 2014!!! Well…it only makes sense as RiRi Woo was a best seller and sold out in most stores as well as on-line during its initial launch. But, I have to wonder, is it better to have the RiRi brand as an exclusive limited edition or as the Spokesperson for the brand??? Hmm…I guess only time will tell. Don’t get me wrong, I love her style and trend setting ways but will people get bored seeing her as the face of the brand for the whole year??? What are your thoughts???

Beauty Week in Review 10.19.13

Hey Beauty Scholars!!! Welcome to the second edition of Beauty Week in Review.

While the week started off slow, it ended with lots of news to share with you this weekend so let’s get started!!!

Replay (a jeans line) receives a worldwide fragrance license with Mavive Spa who is based in Italy. Mavive Spa is part of a bigger company called Massimo Vidal, which is huge in the perfumery sector.

The beauty giant L’Oreal is considering a deal with Shiseido Co. LTD to acquire the beauty brands Carita and Decleor. These are two French based skincare brands currently housed in the professional division of Shiseido. While I am not familiar with Carita, I am familiar with Decleor. Decleor is luxury skincare line based on aromatherapy and natural beauty through the use of plant extracts and essential oils to help rebalance and re-energize your senses and skin. For the record, I am very excited to hear about this collaboration!!!

I suppose the best news for me is hearing that my fashion icon Kerry Washington is set to join Neutrogena as a Creative Consultant…Go Kerry!!! She will not just be the Brand Ambassador; she will also consult on product development and marketing. Ms. Kerry is definitely doing her thing and if she needs an assistant, I am going on the record to say that I am available and ready!!! LBVS #TeamKerryWashungton

The powerhouse of styling hair tools GHD is set to team up with Victoria’s  Secret for their annual fashion show as the hair tools sponsor for the first time ever. This is a long time coming and I think it is a no brainer, as hair, beauty and fashion all go together. I don’t know about you all but I will be watching and reporting back to you with My P.O.V. 🙂

Makeup Artist Sonia Kashuk will not only continue to sell her cosmetics in Target, she will soon add bath and body products as well. The launch date is set for November 10th with 24 products ranging from $4.99 – $19.99 and I will be ready and waiting to try as well as review the products to let you know if this is worth your time and or investment!!!

The lux brand Illamasqua is adding space in the Bloomingdale’s cosmetics department for an exclusive counter concept. Sounds like Bloomingdale’s is bringing their “A game” so they can compete with the big glam divas in the world of beauty. Look out MAC…there is some competition lurking around the corner…LOL.

Rimmel and Rita Ora team up for a collection of 12 quick dry nail polishes and 7 lip colors to launch in February. This sounds interesting and I will keep you posted…with a review, of course!!!

Fashion giant Oscar de la Renta is making a comeback with fragrances in a deal with Inter Parfums. The deal should be completed in December and cosmetics have been added to the list. Welcome back to the world of beauty Mr. Oscar de la Renta…you have been missed!!!

Estee Lauder has partnered with Derek Lam to launch a limited edition makeup line. The collection will cost $85, which will include a satin hard-cased clutch with Lam’s signature clasp. The collection will be sold at Saks Fifth Ave., Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman in the US. It will also be sold in the Europe at Harrods, Galeries Lafayette and El Corte Ingles as well as esteelauder.com. This sounds like a sexy collection and I can’t wait to check this out. Dear Santa…I hope you or Mrs. Clause are reading this as I think I want this…pleas and thank you!!!

Selena Gomez is set to launch with Nicole by OPI on 2 holiday gift sets available sometime this month.

Beauty Week in Review 10.12.13

Hey Beauty Scholars I am starting something new to help keep you in the loop of all things beauty!!! Starting today and every Saturday, I will post a week in review to let you know about the happening things in the beauty industry. Now you will be in the know too!!!

Let’s get started:

For all my nail lovers, Revlon gets an upgrade and partners with powerhouse designer Marchesa for Nail Art 3D Jewel Appliques for $9.99

A custom scent made by you!!! That ‘s right, Fred Segal is launching a DIY fragrance kit in November by layering rollerball scents on your skin until you find your signature scent made for you by you!!! The kit will cost $150 and refills will cost $38. If you don’t live near a Fred Segal, don’t worry because Space NK will offer them in late November.

For all my online shoppers and luxury brand Beauty Scholars!!! Amazon has launched a prestige section on their site with all the bells and whistles that is sure to delight…LOL. With the new luxury beauty tab, you can shop by feature, category, trend, brand, favorites or collections.

One of my favorite beauty brands, Molton Brown has opened an 843 square-foot space US-Flagship store in NYC on Madison Ave. While I am excited for them, I just hope that Chicago is next on the list as that would make me a very happy girl!!! IJS…I can never have enough good smelling luxury body products in my beauty closet.

As you know, earlier this week I reported that Sephora launched its new nail line called Formula X. Check out the details here.

The beauty brand Inglot, who is known for its vibrant colors, is entering the world of skincare starting with a line of multi-action toners. They are also looking to open 25 doors by the end of the year.

Need a new look??? Try ModiFace, a website which offers virtual makeovers with hair, makeup and even skincare.

Did you know Clarisonic is adding a pedi brush head-smoothing disc to the line??? Yep, they are hoping that this will do to the face what the original has done for the face. All for the low price of $199.  I’m not sold yet but it sure sounds interesting.

Elf Cosmetics is joining the box subscription arena. This box will be sent out every 8 weeks to include seasonal colors and products with a theme to work on all skin tones. There are payment options from a monthly subscription of $19.99 or annual at $199.94.

And last but not least, Bliss is launching a new skincare range with anti aging benefits. The new line will debut on Oct 20th with price ranges from $60 – $160 to be sold in Bliss Spas, online and exclusive high-end third party spas and cruise ships. The products will be 99% water-free, which means the ingredients will deliver major results. Om my…I can’t wait to try, test and review this for you, as I am a Bliss fan!!!

Sephora News Flash…411 Beauty Alert

Hey Beauty Scholars!!! Can you believe it??? Sephora is at it again!!! Just when you think it can’t get any better, they go and trial some new projects in select stores, yes I said projects with an “s” (you have scored and gotten the double daily today)!!! And yes, yours truly just so happened to get all the juicy details to share with you J
So, as you know Sephora is rolling out the Skin IQ system where you can do a Q&A about your skin on the computer and it pulls up the best product according to your concerns as well as skin type (but that’s old news). So let’s move on…shall we!!!
A few weeks ago I told you about the new Color IQ system that Sephora is testing in select stores. This is where the Beauty Specialist uses a special tool to find an accurate foundation match for your skin and you receive an email of all the foundations, powders and tinted moisturizers that match your skin tone. Yep, that’s right…100% accurate!!! In case you missed it, check out the link below of the post in its entirety (trust me…you will enjoy it) teehee 

And if this was not enough to send you over the edge…don’t forget the new polish they are launching called Sephora X. It is supposed to be the best of the best that will last forever (well, not forever but longer than the norm…you get my drift). See the details using the link below J
Okay, okay…. I know you are waiting with bated breath to find out the beauty 411…so here you go J (Drum roll please)… Sephora is currently testing Express Styling at the beauty studio!!! What is that you ask???  Well let me tell you…this is where the Cast Members (Beauty Advisors) will do a quick touch up on your hair or give you a consultation. Wait…before you get too happy, slow down and read the rest…LOL. This is by NO MEANS complete styling where any flat irons or blow dryers will be used. This is just a quick touch up with a shine mist or something of the sort. I don’t know about you, but I am down for a little hair refresher or consult while I enjoy my shopping experience!!! IJS

 

But wait…there’s more (in my infomercial voice)!!! Just in case you did not know, Sephora has their own collection of products and I must say, they give some of the bigger brands a run for their money (not only that, they are cheaper…but ssshh, that is just between us) LOL!!! Why am I am telling you this you ask??? Well, if you must know, rumor has it that Sephora will be launching a bath and bodyline that smells and feels delicious!!!
