Fashion Fair Beauty Alert

Fashion Fair, the largest black-owned cosmetics company in the world has made a major announcement! The legendary brand is rebranding and they are starting at the top. They have selected Amy S. Hilliard, as the new President over the Johnson Publishing owned beauty brand. She will be responsible for overall operations of the company and growing the brand in sales, marketing and building retail partnerships.

How exciting for Fashion Fair to have so much newness over the past few months! Last fall, they hosted an amazing soirée, “Say Yes to Life, Love and Beauty” for the re-launch of the website and debut of the short film “Say Yes”, they named Celebrity Makeup Artist Tia Dantzler as the new Creative Director and now Amy S. Hilliard as the President for the brand!

Amy, a Detroit Native comes to the brand with a wealth of knowledge and experience. She has served as President, CEO and Founder of The ComfortCake Company LLC, the maker of “poundcake so good it feels like a hug!” ComfortCake has also been featured on several cooking and news shows as well as national publications. She owns The Hilliard Group Inc., a strategic marketing consulting, product development and speaking firm. And she has held prominent roles at L’Oreal for Soft Sheen Products, Burrell Communications, The Pillsbury Company and The Gillette Company just to name a few.

The CEO of Johnson Publishing Desiree Rodgers says “We are excited to bring Amy into the Fashion Fair family. Amy comes to us with an extensive background in marketing and business development, and we look forward to having her expertise and leadership as we re-launch the Fashion Fair Cosmetics brand and continue our business growth.”

“I am sincerely honored to take over the role of President for Fashion Fair Cosmetics,” added Hilliard. “This company holds an iconic role in the African-American community. Personally meeting Mrs. Eunice Johnson as she launched the brand was historic, and I am excited to play a role in the company’s growth and expansion globally.”

In 2013, Fashion Fair’s motto was “Say Yes to Life, Love and Beauty.” In 2014 I believe the motto should be, “Say Yes to Change, Growth and Beauty!” It will be exciting to see the new ideas, growth and transformation that Amy S. Hilliard will bring to the brand in her new position as the President starting on February 24th.

Beauty Week in Review the 6th Edition

Welcome to the 6th Edition of the Beauty Week in Review; week ending December 14th. The beauty industry has been in overdrive in the last few weeks and here’s the 411 on what’s been happening!!!

Burberry opens a store in London called Burberry Beauty Box located near the Chanel and Dior beauty boutiques. The Beauty Box is filled with two floors of beauty with the use of modern technology to showcase products and services. A digital chandelier was made using moving iPads to display beauty content. A digital runway nail bar lets customers virtually test nail colors on different skin tones on the screen. And if that wasn’t enough…The Beauty Box has a stylist available to assist customers how to coordinate your makeup with your accessories. (In my infomercial voice) But wait…there’s more!!! They also offer mini mani’s and fragrance consultations.

WOW…is all I can say. I am beyond impressed and jealous at the same time that The Beauty Box is not in the US for me to just sit and be amazed all day long!!! I guess I will have to find a way to get to London soon!!! (Insert Shameless Plug) If anyone would like to sponsor me… I am open to discuss 😉 LBVS!!!

Physicians Formula is getting a makeover to make the brand more glamorous. The new tag line will be Rx for Glamour a blend between health and glamour. New products will be unveiled in 2014 like a Super CC+ Color Correction Cream, Sexy Booster eye products and a Bronze Booster Glow – Boosting BB Cream, SPF 20.

Not only am I sold on the newness of the brand but I am also super excited about the Bronze Booster Glow – Boosting BB Cream. A Bronzer and a BB Cream all in one with a SPF??? Yes! Yes! Yes!!! Physicians Formula will give me bronzing life this summer and I can’t wait!!!

Pink is the color for spring according the trends of makeup brands like YSL, Nars and Givenchy.

I don’t know about you but I’m sold!!! Pink is one of my favorite colors…Yay Pink!!!

Herbal Essence is upgrading with a premium line to launch in January named Naked!!! The products are free of heavy residues, parabens and dyes.

This line sounds interesting but I wonder why it’s not Sulfate Free if it’s called Naked??? Things that make you go hmm…IJS

Kiss Products are on the edge of releasing groundbreaking nail technology like artificial nails with gel finish, nail tattoos, nail art kits and a nail repair system. They are also launching gel nail strips that can be set with a special topcoat or LED lamp that will last up to 2 weeks.

This sounds interesting and I am willing to give it a try. Manicure Monday here I come!!! LOL


Pantone announces Radiant Orchid as the color of the year for 2014 with the color expanding into hues of fuchsia, purple and pink.

I’m looking forward to spring already!!!


Attention all mani divas!!! There is a phone app just for you called Mani Diaries. It’s a social networking app to unite mani divas together to share manis, pedis and nail art.

Sounds cool but not my thing.



Trish McEvoy launches a Portable Beauty Collection with 2 palettes of colors. One for eyes and the other for lips and cheeks with a makeup bag and brushes included for $98.

This is a cool deal and the colors look like they can actually match all skin tones. The price point is amazing considering everything that is inside…sign me up!!!

I know it has been a while but the beauty industry has been a little quiet over the past couple of weeks until now! Here is what has been happening while you have been shopping, eating and giving thanks!

The L’Oreal brand Biotherm has introduced Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester as the new Brand Ambassador. Just in case you are scratching your head and asking yourself who is Biotherm? They are a French brand of luxury skincare products for the face and body. They have been around for several years and the brand is very popular in China.

I think this is a great move for Biotherm to have a fresh international face that is well known with the millennial age group. She can bring a younger audience to an older brand.

Nordstrom Beauty Department gets a makeover! The look will be contemporary to make the customer have a more individualized experience. Brands will now have key and trend products grouped together and Nordstrom will offer a beauty concierge service to allow a fuller shopping experience with the products. They will also offer more trial sizes, makeup applications and consultations. Two flagships stores in California have been completed with more stores to follow.

Wow, this is a smart move for Nordstrom! With their outstanding customer service and beauty makeover, this will make them a top competitor with Sephora! I know Sephora will be on their “A game” but this is a race I intend on watching!

Supermodel and Beauty Maven Iman takes a leap into the CC Cream world! The brand has launched five CC Correct & Cover Powder to Crème Concealer shades. The powder to cream formula will offer more coverage than the BB Crème. The CC Crème will cost $15 and designed to balance the skin tone, color correct the complexion with great ingredients like amino acids, protein, vitamins B, C, and E and beta-carotene. The launch is scheduled for December 15th online and in stores January 1st like Walgreens and Target as well as

Well Ms. Iman, you definitely have my attention with those ingredients! I am excited and counting down the days to find my shade with your free app where I can snap my pic and find the shade that fits my skin tone!

MAC teams up with Disney! Yes, this is truly an OMG moment as it is the first time the makeup giant has teamed up with a motion picture! They will offer a limited edition collection from the upcoming Angelina Jolie film Mistress of All Evil – Maleficent of Sleeping Beauty. The limited edition line will include products for the face, eyes, lips and nails.

It sounds very interesting and I can’t wait to see the colors!

The sexy rapper Pitbull is set to launch a fragrance! He will unveil the fragrances at his concert on New Year’s Eve in Miami. There is a scent for men and women and they are titled none other then Pitbull! The scent will be sold on from the launch until February 14th. He also has plans to expand the brand in the future with fashion, accessories and beauty products.

If this fragrance smells as sexy as he looks…it will be a best seller! LOL

L’Oreal is launching a product called Hairchalk for those of you who love to color and change your hair on a constant basis. The product will be available in eight colors ranging from pink, blue to bronze. It will be applied as a liquid and dry as a powder and priced at $36.65. It will be launched in the US in March 2014.

Dear L’Oreal, I am officially giving you the side eye o-O. This does not sound interesting or fun but I wish you luck!

My NYC Beauty Experience – Beauty Week in Review Part II

I had such an awesome time at the beautypress Holiday Spotlight event that I did not want the night to end!!! As a matter of fact, I headed out to dinner with my new Blogger friends Laura of, an awesome beauty blog about product development and product innovation and Wendy of, a fashion blog where you can fill up on fashion sass with a twist of curlz galore!!!

The native NYC girls decided we would walk to our destination and I would have been fine with that if it were around the corner (I had been wearing 4 inch heels since 11 AM and it was now 8:15 PM…need I say more???) LOL. We walked for as long as I could stand it (which was 5 minutes). Thank goodness Laura found a shoe store across the street and Wendy found a great pair of flats for me for $20…FTW!!! Me feet will be forever grateful to Laura, Wendy and the shoe store ShoeGasm!!!IMG_1365

Now that my feet felt comfort, I was ready to walk on to our beauty detour before dinner; a store called Harmon Face Values. Harmon’s is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bed, Bath & Beyond based on the East Coast and they offer some of the best prices on the most popular beauty brands with one of the largest selections (mostly mass retail).

OMG!!! We were ready to play and purchase and as you can see in the photo below…we did purchase!!! This is our combined beauty purchase from Harmon Face Values.


With all this shopping, we worked up an appetite and decided to eat at an amazing restaurant named Cafeteria. If you are ever in the NYC area…this is a must try; see the photo below!!!


After all the food, we decided to call it a night and meet at noon to start our day of Beauty excursions and my beauty tour!!!

Day 2 started with a must see for me: a visit to the newly remodeled beauty department at Macy’s Herald’s Square. Macy’s has truly upgraded the department with new modern counters, tons of open space and a few new luxury brands. Now this is what a beauty department should look like!!! There was so much traffic, makeup artist painting faces and people buzzing around making purchases. I stopped for a quick touch up at Laura Mercier and of course made a purchase…LOL. I also received a free gift with my purchase…Yay me!!!



After our beauty excursion at Macy’s, we scurried off to the new Marc Jacobs store on Bleecker Street. I was so excited because they were in the process of setting up the new holiday products. They had everything on my Christmas list: a bronzer with shimmer, red lipstick and a holiday eye trio!!! I just hope Santa is reading this and remembers to include all 3 products in my stocking this year!!! After our beauty play date at Marc Jacobs, we headed over to a store that I had never heard of by the name of Aesop. The company’s origin is from Melbourne, Australia and they have products for hair, skin and body. They use both plant based and laboratory made ingredients using the greatest anti-oxidant properties. The sales person was so full of great information, she let us test a few products and when I tried the hand cream…I was sold. The Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm is just EVERYTHING!!! IMG_1466

After we pampered ourselves, we walked over to the Elf Studio. Yes, Elf has a store and the products are the same price. I was amazed at how chic it looked inside. I found 2 eye shadow palettes that look exactly like the Sephora brand baked shadows. I know what you are thinking…and yes, I did purchase them. LOL, don’t judge me :-), I am a product junkie!!!

IMG_1467Our day of beauty was so much fun and I am so lucky to have had the best beauty tour guides a beauty junkie could ask for!!! Thank you Laura of and Wendy of!!! You ladies are so amazing and I am glad we met at the beautypress event!!! I can’t wait for the two of you to come to Chicago so I can return the favor but riding around in a car instead of walking…LOL.

Hey Beauty Scholars!!! Welcome to the 3rd edition of the Beauty Week in Review!!! I do realize that this should be the 4th installment but the news in terms of beauty the week before was bleak to say the least…LOL!!! This week is a little livelier; so let’s get this party started!!!

Sephora Americas has a named Calvin McDonald as the new CEO.  Now this is interesting because McDonald comes from Sears Canada where he was the President and CEO. Don’t judge a book a by its cover until you know the whole story :-). McDonald has been very successful in Canada with Sears with positive store comp sales for three quarters in a row for the first time in seven years as well as his past success with other companies!!! So don’t worry Sephora loyalist…the company sounds it’s in great hands with more innovative thinking to come. Stay tuned…I know I will!!! re-launched its site with an ecommerce portion section added this week. The site was previously geared toward social networking and blogging but now, it has new features!!! You can create a profile, make a wish list, and purchase products, read reviews, pin products as well as other things. I like the new site but I also miss the old one. It is worth taking a ride or two around the block, so go check it out and let me know what you think!!!

Avon is taking a local stand for marketing and I love it!!! Instead of a one face fits all for beauty, they are looking to take local celebrities and keep the same product and advertising with a local message. This will position the brand to become more relevant to the culture in a particular market…i.e., US or Brazil. This totally makes sense to me and I am excited to see the end result!!! Good luck Avon!!!

Japonesque, who is the guru of beauty tools and best known for their tweezers, is expanding the brand with color cosmetics. WOW…this is super exciting. The date was set for October 27th in Ulta with 220 stores and to expand with another 150 doors in March. Side note: I think I am going to take a break and head over to my local Ulta for some beauty play time today…giggles!!! The products are priced from $18 -$36 with very vivid colors for the eyes, lips and face. FYI…if you live in the UK, the brand is also launching in John Lewis.

UK brand Rimmel is changing its focus to eyes. Mascara seems to be driving the overall sales for the brand so why not make it the focus. They are now ranked as the 4th largest mascara brand in the mass market!!! They have also updated the shadows; they have a cream formulation that is long lasting and easy to work with. Sounds like the eyes have it…LOL and I am going to see what they hype is all about with reviews to come…of course!!! 🙂

L’Oreal names Blake Lively as the new Brand Ambassador. This is exciting to me, as I really like Blake; I have loved her style since the 1st season of Gossip Girl (don’t judge me…she has style and the show was good) LOL.

The brand Toppik, best known for their hair fiber products, launches hair supplements for growth. They will be adding Hair Nutrition 2-in-1 Capsules and other products later this year that will also promote hair growth. Products are now available at Sally’s Beauty Supply, a 30-day supply for $19.95 and Ulta early next year. While I am not down with taking supplements, I am interested in the Toppik Hair Regrowth Treatment – a topical treatment to be launched next year!!!

Jay Z is set to launch his 1st fragrance for men. Well, it was only a matter of time as his wife Bey has experienced much success with her scents. November 20th is the launch date at Barney’s to be followed up with a November 29th date in Macy’s, Sephora, Nordstrom, Belk, Bon-Ton and Ulta. Just in time for the holiday season!!!

MAC names Rihanna as the new Viva Glam Spokesperson for 2014!!! Well…it only makes sense as RiRi Woo was a best seller and sold out in most stores as well as on-line during its initial launch. But, I have to wonder, is it better to have the RiRi brand as an exclusive limited edition or as the Spokesperson for the brand??? Hmm…I guess only time will tell. Don’t get me wrong, I love her style and trend setting ways but will people get bored seeing her as the face of the brand for the whole year??? What are your thoughts???

Beauty Week in Review 10.19.13


Hey Beauty Scholars!!! Welcome to the second edition of Beauty Week in Review.

While the week started off slow, it ended with lots of news to share with you this weekend so let’s get started!!!

Replay (a jeans line) receives a worldwide fragrance license with Mavive Spa who is based in Italy. Mavive Spa is part of a bigger company called Massimo Vidal, which is huge in the perfumery sector.

The beauty giant L’Oreal is considering a deal with Shiseido Co. LTD to acquire the beauty brands Carita and Decleor. These are two French based skincare brands currently housed in the professional division of Shiseido. While I am not familiar with Carita, I am familiar with Decleor. Decleor is luxury skincare line based on aromatherapy and natural beauty through the use of plant extracts and essential oils to help rebalance and re-energize your senses and skin. For the record, I am very excited to hear about this collaboration!!!

I suppose the best news for me is hearing that my fashion icon Kerry Washington is set to join Neutrogena as a Creative Consultant…Go Kerry!!! She will not just be the Brand Ambassador; she will also consult on product development and marketing. Ms. Kerry is definitely doing her thing and if she needs an assistant, I am going on the record to say that I am available and ready!!! LBVS #TeamKerryWashungton

The powerhouse of styling hair tools GHD is set to team up with Victoria’s  Secret for their annual fashion show as the hair tools sponsor for the first time ever. This is a long time coming and I think it is a no brainer, as hair, beauty and fashion all go together. I don’t know about you all but I will be watching and reporting back to you with My P.O.V. 🙂

Makeup Artist Sonia Kashuk will not only continue to sell her cosmetics in Target, she will soon add bath and body products as well. The launch date is set for November 10th with 24 products ranging from $4.99 – $19.99 and I will be ready and waiting to try as well as review the products to let you know if this is worth your time and or investment!!!

The lux brand Illamasqua is adding space in the Bloomingdale’s cosmetics department for an exclusive counter concept. Sounds like Bloomingdale’s is bringing their “A game” so they can compete with the big glam divas in the world of beauty. Look out MAC…there is some competition lurking around the corner…LOL.

Rimmel and Rita Ora team up for a collection of 12 quick dry nail polishes and 7 lip colors to launch in February. This sounds interesting and I will keep you posted…with a review, of course!!!

Fashion giant Oscar de la Renta is making a comeback with fragrances in a deal with Inter Parfums. The deal should be completed in December and cosmetics have been added to the list. Welcome back to the world of beauty Mr. Oscar de la Renta…you have been missed!!!

Estee Lauder has partnered with Derek Lam to launch a limited edition makeup line. The collection will cost $85, which will include a satin hard-cased clutch with Lam’s signature clasp. The collection will be sold at Saks Fifth Ave., Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman in the US. It will also be sold in the Europe at Harrods, Galeries Lafayette and El Corte Ingles as well as This sounds like a sexy collection and I can’t wait to check this out. Dear Santa…I hope you or Mrs. Clause are reading this as I think I want this…pleas and thank you!!!

Selena Gomez is set to launch with Nicole by OPI on 2 holiday gift sets available sometime this month.

The Queen of Exfoliators


A few months ago on one of my many trips to Sephora, I was introduced to a new product called FIRMx Peeling Gel by Peter Thomas Roth. Now, I was not in the market for a new exfoliator but one of the Cast Members who knows me (don’t judge me) raved about how much she loved this product and its multifunctional uses…needless to say, she had me at the word multifunctional…LOL.


So there I was listening to one of my favorite Cast Members share her testimony on the FIRMx Peeling Gel but before we get down to the nitty gritty, let me give you a little background information on the brand. Peter Thomas Roth A.K.A. PTR has been a part of the beauty industry since birth sort to speak; his family owned and operated two spas in the early 1800’s and 1900’s in Hungary. And when he launched his company in 1993, he used the basic soothing and healing philosophies from the many muds found in the Hungarian thermal springs. PTR also wanted to find quality products with innovative technology for acne and anti-aging.  Today, the brand has 100’s of products with breakthrough formulas and astonishing results.

Okay, so now that you have been formally introduced, let’s get down to the nittty gritty of the likes and dislikes!!! I like  (no, let me change that) love how this product exfoliates. It removes the dead skin cells like none other and leaves the skin feeling like silk!!! I felt like my face was kind of like a snake that sheds its skin.  The gel was so amazing that I used it on my hands and feet as the Cast Member suggested. Yep…that’s right, this gel works on the feet too!!! Mmm, hmm…it left my heels feeling extra soft…better than the best pedi I ever had!!! LBVS. It is not drying and it works on my sensitive skin!!! FTW. And if that was not enough, it was easy to use and it did not smell. The dead skin rolls right off and reveals the newest of new skin…all I can do is scream, YES!!! Giggles


So now that you know all the good stuff, let me share the bad… Oh wait, I could not find anything bad about this product because it gave my skin life and it is just amazeballs!!! Yes, this multifunctional exfoliator is just…EVERYTHING!!!


My final grade for the FIRMx Peeling Gel by Peter Thomas Roth is 5 out of 5 smooches…MUAH!!! Thank you Mr. PTR for your invention as I am now in love. You can purchase the FIRMx Peeling Gel at Sephora or for $48. Yes, I know it is a little steep but you pay for what you get and this exfoliator is “Grade A” quality and worth every single penny!!! I can understand why it won the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval…Happy exfoliating…MUAH
