Mother’s Day with Curl Kitchen

I had the pleasure of hosting the grand opening event on Mother’s Day at Curl Kitchen a natural hair beauty boutique.

It was a day filled with special memories for the grandmothers, mothers and daughters who were in attendance. They had a choice of receiving a curl coaching session valued at $75, door prizes, a headshot compliments of Paulina Fadrowska of fotoinna and some great beauty advice from yours truly on Skincare 101 – The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Behind the Ingredients.”

There was food, fun and an atmosphere filled with beauty! The attendees were there to learn and celebrate the opening of this beautiful beauty boutique filled with natural hair care products. Generations of beautiful women walked away with some awesome swag bags filled with hair products and headshots to capture the moment.

The grand opening of Curl Kitchen was a big success and I am honored that I was asked to host the event. If you did not get a chance to attend the grand opening, head over to the boutique for some natural hair goodies and other beauty finds! The exact location is 1926 S Wabash in Chicago, IL. Thank you to the owner, Peggy Author also known as the Conscious Afro for having me host your special day. Happy Shopping!

Highlight, Illuminate, Glow

A few weeks ago during our cold winter spell in the Chicago area, I had an awesome girl’s day at Mojo Spa in Chicago and it was an AMAZING day to say the least!

Mojo Spa is cool spa where all the products are handmade. It all started with Amanda Kezios’s quest for the perfect lip balm. With her talents as a personal chef, she turned her passion into a business. She has created over 200 products with natural food ingredients and aromatherapy blends made with positive affirmations and healing crystals.

We popped in for manicures and pedicures. We were lucky they had a time to squeeze us in. Delia and Nikki were ready and set to make our nails and toes look new again.

The resident Makeup Artist Chelsea offered us a complimentary makeover with our service. She was very pleasant and chose a good selection of colors for our skin tones.

The Red Velvet Lipstick was my fave because red is my signature color. But today, I am going to tell you about the lluminata Illuminating Herbal Makeup, so check out the deats in The Glam It or Slam it.

Here’s the Glam: It is an herbal infused formula mixed with all kinds of goodness to help heal and rejuvenate the skin. It’s a 3-in-1 multifunctional product that primes, moisturizes and illuminates! It has light reflecting particles, which gives you a glow and highlight! The best part is, a little goes a long way and you can wear it alone or underneath your makeup. And if that was not enough…it’s handmade and smells some kind of amazing (but not overpowering). Oh yeah, drum roll please…it’s great for all skin tones (no ashy look here) and skin types!

The Slam: Insert happy face here 🙂 because I love everything about this product! Plus we had so much fun at Mojo Spa and it was something that we really needed. Thank goodness for snow days, good friends and great customer service!

My final grade for the lluminata Illuminating Herbal Makeup is totally a 5 out of 5 smooches…MUAH! If you are interested in purchasing the lluminata Illuminating Herbal Makeup it is $25, at mojospa.com or schedule a spa day with a makeover at Mojo Spa in Chicago… trust me, you won’t be sorry you’ll be refreshed… Happy Illuminating!

Fashion Fair, the largest black-owned cosmetics company in the world has made a major announcement! The legendary brand is rebranding and they are starting at the top. They have selected Amy S. Hilliard, as the new President over the Johnson Publishing owned beauty brand. How exciting for Fashion Fair to have so much newness over the past few months! Last fall, they hosted an amazing soirée, “Say Yes to Life, Love and Beauty” for the re-launch of the website and debut of the short film “Say Yes”, they named Celebrity Makeup Artist Tia Dantzler as the new Creative Director and now Amy S. Amy, a Detroit Native comes to the brand with a wealth of knowledge and experience. The CEO of Johnson Publishing Desiree Rodgers says “We are excited to bring Amy into the Fashion Fair family. Amy comes to us with an extensive background in marketing and business development, and we look forward to having her expertise and leadership as we re-launch the Fashion Fair Cosmetics brand and continue our business growth.”

“I am sincerely honored to take over the role of President for Fashion Fair Cosmetics,” added Hilliard. “This company holds an iconic role in the African-American community. Personally meeting Mrs. Eunice Johnson as she launched the brand was historic, and I am excited to play a role in the company’s growth and expansion globally.”

In 2013, Fashion Fair’s motto was “Say Yes to Life, Love and Beauty.” In 2014 I believe the motto should be, “Say Yes to Change, Growth and Beauty!” It will be exciting to see the new ideas, growth and transformation that Amy S. Say Yes to Life, Love and Beauty: An Event by Fashion Fair

Last Wednesday, I had the pleasure of attending the Fashion Fair “Say Yes” to Life, Love and Beauty Party at the Pump Room in Chicago hosted by Linda Johnson Rice, Desiree Rogers and Mitzi Miller; the women who continue to lead and flourish the Johnson Publishing brand.

IMG_1332This was an amazing event to say the least! It was an opportunity to mix and mingle with industry leaders and talented peers to celebrate the short film “Say Yes” from the award-winning Sundance filmmaker, Ava DuVernay. The film encouraged women of color to “say yes” to life, love and beauty; a concept that I am happy to embrace and share through my blog. I believe that life is too short not to “say yes” and you should always do what you feel and have no regrets!

The party consisted of 250 accomplished women who all chose to “say yes”. The dance floor was filled and the beats were jamming from the awesome celebrity DJ Kiss. There were special appearances from Chicago’s very own Actress Drew Sidora (Crazy, Sexy Cool: The TLC Story) and Michelle Williams (Broadway Star and former member of Destiny’s Child).

Fashion Fair

There was also re-launch of the newly revamped Fashion Fair website. We had an opportunity to test some of the beautiful products from Fashion Fair and receive mini makeovers featuring the amazing Celebrity Makeup Artist and new Creative Director for Fashion Fair, Tia Dantzler with the Fashion Fair team.

Fashion Fair Say Yes 2013 29 copy

It was indeed a star-studded event with many accomplished women. But it was not about the star power or the accomplishments; it was about celebrating women of color “saying yes” to life, love and beauty! Thank you to the Johnson Publishing team for a night of connections and many memories that I will cherish; this was definitely a night of “Girl Power” x 3! Be sure to check out the new and improved Fashion Fair website and “Say Yes”!

The Beauty of Courage and Giving

Yesterday, I completed a task that I had on my life list to complete; it was finishing a 5K race!!! This is something that I have been putting off for years but I finally did it and I am so proud of myself!!! Yay me… 🙂

I am sure that you may be asking yourself what does this have to do with beauty??? Well, it’s about the beauty of having courage to complete things and the beauty of caring of your inner beauty, which will allow my outer beauty to shine!!! How many times do you put things off that can benefit you in the long run??? Do you take tine to make time to care for your inner beauty like you do your outer beauty???

My 5K race will result on my overall health and wellness, which represents the beauty of living a more healthy life…. I will loose weight, feel more energized, drink more water, have clear skin and be beautiful from the inside out!!!

Not only will I benefit from the overall health and beauty in my life but I will also enhance the beauty of a child’s life. I ran for a cause called By The Hand; a Christian based organization that helps at risk kids who show potential to succeed in life in underprivileged neighborhoods in the Chicago area but lack role models or a helping hand. This is a great cause and I am excited to have the ability to enhance the beauty of a child’s life!!!

What about you??? How will you impact your inner beauty today??? What challenge do you need help completing??? Today, I will continue to enhance my inner beauty, have the courage to complete a challenge and enhance the beauty of a child’s life. If you inclined to enhance the beauty of a child’s life, please visit my By The Hand Race page and give the gift of giving!!! (Even though the race is over, you can still give). Thanks in advance!!! Have a marvelous Monday…MUAH

#EverydayPeopleChi The Beauty of Food, Music and Fun

About a week ago, I had the pleasure of attending a beautiful event called Everyday People Brunch presented by SKYY Vodka’s House of Moscato at the Sawtooth restaurant with special guest Chef Roble (special shout out to Rachel of Rachel O Beauty for allowing me to attend this event in her absence).

Everyday People Brunch Presented by SKYY Vodka's House of Moscato

In case you are scratching your head and wondering what is Everyday People and why they had a brunch or who is Chef Roble, let me introduce you to some things happening in and around Chicago and maybe coming to a city near you!!! Everyone Day People is a monthly brunch party, which started in NY and had its debut in Chicago on August 18th. There is music, food, drinks and fun!!! Chef Roble is the star from the hit TV show Chef Roble and Co on Bravo TV Network and he was the man of the hour as he curated the beautiful menu for the day.

Everyday People Brunch Presented by SKYY Vodka's House of Moscato

The beauty of food, music and fun is the best way that I can describe this event in my own words and I hope that they will return soon with the beautiful and tasty SKYY Vokda’s House of Moscato because those drinks were AMAZING to say the least!!! Plus DJ Moma was giving everybody life with the beats that he was playing. And the food…was just ALL OF THAT…my mouth is still watering with just the thought of that tasty brunch!!! I have not had that much fun on a Sunday in a long time!!! Whoa…the memories…LOL.

Everyday People Brunch Presented by SKYY Vodka's House of Moscato

My, how I wish you were all there 🙂 but since you were not able to attend, here is a sneak peek at the drink and food menu…

Guests enjoyed four signature SKYY Infusions Moscato Grape cocktails:

  • Moscato Gem

Yum…I know!!! Now, I may or may not have had a few cocktails but rumor has it that the Moscato Sunrise was the best drink on the menu…*giggles*. Any who, although the event is over, the beautiful memories from it will last forever!!! And if Everyday People Brunch presented by SKYY Vodka’s House of Moscato returns to the Chi…I hope they bring Chef Roble again with invites for all of you…MUAH!!!
