Fashion Fair Beauty Alert

Fashion Fair, the largest black-owned cosmetics company in the world has made a major announcement! The legendary brand is rebranding and they are starting at the top. They have selected Amy S. Hilliard, as the new President over the Johnson Publishing owned beauty brand. She will be responsible for overall operations of the company and growing the brand in sales, marketing and building retail partnerships.

How exciting for Fashion Fair to have so much newness over the past few months! Last fall, they hosted an amazing soirée, “Say Yes to Life, Love and Beauty” for the re-launch of the website and debut of the short film “Say Yes”, they named Celebrity Makeup Artist Tia Dantzler as the new Creative Director and now Amy S. Hilliard as the President for the brand!

Amy, a Detroit Native comes to the brand with a wealth of knowledge and experience. She has served as President, CEO and Founder of The ComfortCake Company LLC, the maker of “poundcake so good it feels like a hug!” ComfortCake has also been featured on several cooking and news shows as well as national publications. She owns The Hilliard Group Inc., a strategic marketing consulting, product development and speaking firm. And she has held prominent roles at L’Oreal for Soft Sheen Products, Burrell Communications, The Pillsbury Company and The Gillette Company just to name a few.

The CEO of Johnson Publishing Desiree Rodgers says “We are excited to bring Amy into the Fashion Fair family. Amy comes to us with an extensive background in marketing and business development, and we look forward to having her expertise and leadership as we re-launch the Fashion Fair Cosmetics brand and continue our business growth.”

“I am sincerely honored to take over the role of President for Fashion Fair Cosmetics,” added Hilliard. “This company holds an iconic role in the African-American community. Personally meeting Mrs. Eunice Johnson as she launched the brand was historic, and I am excited to play a role in the company’s growth and expansion globally.”

In 2013, Fashion Fair’s motto was “Say Yes to Life, Love and Beauty.” In 2014 I believe the motto should be, “Say Yes to Change, Growth and Beauty!” It will be exciting to see the new ideas, growth and transformation that Amy S. Hilliard will bring to the brand in her new position as the President starting on February 24th.

Congratulations Amy, I wish you much success in your new role with Fashion Fair!

My Beauty Play Date with Mary Kay

Last week I had a makeup play date with my new favorite Mary Kay Consultant, Curtrice. I can’t believe how much fun I had testing, trying and playing with the new colors and the Mary Kay at Play line. It’s funny because I was not a huge Mary Kay fan because the brand did not appeal to me. I tried it years ago and it was just…blah and it never occurred to me to try it again until I met a consultant by the name of Curtrice.

During our makeup play date, she showed me the new colors, trends and the at play line. The colors are vibrant, fresh and exciting. The application was smooth, the eye shadows did not crease and the staying power was long lasting!!! I enjoyed the products so much that I purchased a few 🙂

IMG_0818

My favorite product so far has to be the Lash Love Mascara in Plum. It offers a different option to the normal black or brown colors. It helps my brown eyes sparkle just a little bit more and it extends the length just a little bit more.

IMG_0817

I also have a fondness for the Mary Kay at Play Eye Crayon in Purple Smoke.  It’s a multifunctional product and we all know how much I love products that have 2 or more functions…LOL. You can use this as a liner or smudge it into a shadow. The color is very soft purple with a hint of silver/gray smoke. It glides on very easy and has great staying power.  I liked it so much that I purchased 2 of them.

IMG_0820

I must say that I am pleasantly surprised with my Mary Kay products. I also purchased some skincare but I have not had a chance to try it out. But, when I do…a review will be following!!! LOL. This just goes to show that even if a brand does not appeal to you or if you don’t like a few products…it doesn’t mean the whole brand is not worth a try. If it were not for Curtrice, I don’t think that I would have tried the products again. Thank you Curtrice for all of your help and excellent customer service!!!

My Fall 2013 Makeover Experience

IMG_0529

A few days ago I attended an event at Ulta Beauty for a fall makeover from Smashbox Cosmetics. It’s funny because I was really nervous, as I have not had a full makeover in years. Yes, I know…I am a beauty blogger and you would think that this would be the norm but I never make the time, I am nervous about the look I am going to receive and I am a closet germaphobe (don’t judge me)!!! Believe it or not, I have witnessed some makeup artists with dirty brushes, blowing on a powder to remove the access or not sanitizing the brushes. Plus, you never know what little kid or teen has been playing in the makeup when no one is around…. IJS!!! So, I usually stay clear and just apply products on my hand. However, last Saturday, I took a leap of faith closed my eyes (literally) and took a chance…LOLIMG_0532

When I walked in, I did not know what to expect and I was hoping that I would get the best makeup artist that would beat my face (as they say in the industry…meaning make it fierce) if not, this post would have a totally different tone… giggles!!!

Anywho, I was approached by Rose, the Prestige Manager who organized the event to check in and get assigned to my makeup artist. Moments later, I was introduced to Christine with Smashbox Cosmetics and she asked me what look did I want her to achieve. Fall, was my answer as it only makes sense so I can show you…my Beauty Scholars the haute colors for this season :-).

Here, you will see a collage of pics from start to finish…bare face and all :-).IMG_0528After my fierce, fab, glam look from the awesome Christine, I was able to take a mini photo-shoot in the Smashbox photo booth. Yep, I felt like I was on ANTM (America’s Next Top Model) and Tyra was about to tell me that I was the new winner…LOL!!!IMG_0534IMG_0538

I had so much fun and I must admit that I am mad that I have not taken the time or the guts to this a long time ago :-(. I was so pleased with my complete look that I purchased almost everything (and that my friends is how and when a makeup artist knows if you really love the look).

IMG_0530After my new fall look, I had dinner and margaritas too see if my lipstick would last like my lip stain and guess what… it lasted but not as good. Good enough for me to give it 4 out of 5 smooches…MUAH!!!IMG_0531The overall look and the total experience was a 5 out of 5 smooches…MUAH!!! Ulta Beauty, I loved the event and Smashbox…bravo on your new fall colors!!! Beauty Scholars, I highly recommend that you get a makeover every season to change your look, get pampered and try some new products. It makes you feel great, look glam and be fabulous!!!

Special shout out to my fellow blogger in crime Ms. Travel Chic for joining me on my fall makeover adventures!!! IMG_0542

Secret and Not So Secret Beauty Tips

Hey Beauty Scholars!!! It’s Friday night and it is about to storm in the Chicago area so, I thought I would giveaway some of my best secret and not so secret beauty tips for your weekend enjoyment 🙂 Some tips I have heard from friends, some from beauty mags or beauty segments; none the less…they are great tips and I hope they help you as much as they have helped me…enjoy!!!

I was watching Dr. Oz one day and he had a beauty secret that I could not pass on and I have only shared this publicly once so you are in for a treat!!! If your feet get sweaty or stinky, use deodorant on the bottom to keep them dry!!! Yep, that’s right, deodorant is not just for keeping your underarms dry and smelling fresh, it is also for feet too!!! LBVS…don’t judge me but it works.

IMG_0205

Even though I have beautiful brown skin…I sometimes want that sun kissed look!!! So, instead of laying out in the sun, I use a liquid bronzer on my body to give my skin that beautiful bronzed glow!!! Mmm, hmm it is one of my best-kept secrets for fake hosiery on my legs…LOL

IMG_5105

Did you know that if your skin is oily that you could blot it with a toilet seat cover??? I know, I know…it sounds crazy but the paper is made out of the same material as blotting papers. Who knew??? If you are a little leery using those, try a paper napkin, it is not the same but it helps the shine and keeps you from looking like an oil slick…LOL. But remember to blot not rub or the paper will be all over your face and then you will look a little crazy…IJS.

IMG_0215

You want whiter teeth quick fast and in a hurry??? No problem, apply your best red lipstick and wallah…just like magic; you have the appearance of whiter and brighter teeth!!! Easy, breezy, amazing, I know!!! Giggles

IMG_5225

Do you have shampoo/conditioner or shower gel that you purchased and did not return??? Use them as shaving cream or use the shower gel or shampoo as hand soap. No need of wasting it or throwing it out. It does the same thing, the same thing, the same thing…LOL.

IMG_0209

Speaking of shaving your legs, to get a closer shave, use a body scrub before you shave to remove the dead skin cells. This will give you super soft skin and if you use self tanner, it will prevent you from having that streaky look. You know that uneven look you hate; well, it’s all gone if you scrub before you tan!!! I know, thank me later 🙂

IMG_0210

Last but not least, stop using a towel to dry your hair. Why??? Well, the little loops in the towel catch onto the hair and pulls it. Towels absorb a lot of moisture and you need a little moisture if you are going to blow dry the hair. Plus, when you rub the towel in your hair it causes the hair to get frizzy and tangled…boo!!! So what should you use, you ask??? A cotton t-shirt will save the day and your hair!!!  And who doesn’t want great hair???

So there you have it…my secret and not so secret Friday night beauty tips!!! MUAH

Just My P.O.V… A News Worthy Cosmetic Line Coming to a Store Near You!!!

Hey Beauty Scholars!!! I just found out some interesting news. Fashion photographer and former America’s Next Top Model judge Nigel Barker will be teaming up with his wife former fashion model and makeup artist Christine Barker to develop 2 new cosmetic lines according to www.thegloss.com. Wow, 2…that is certainly very aggressive for newcomers.
The first line is called Beauty Equation and it is intended for mid 20’s and older. The prices will start at $25 and the line will be sold as a high end prestige line (in department stores or specialty cosmetic stores like Sephora or Ulta).
The second line will be a mass market line (drug stores) geared toward teens and young adults or anyone who still claims to be younger than what they are…LOL. The brand will be called BE Cosmetics and it will launch in sometime in 2014.
I don’t know about you Beauty Scholars but I think this could be a winner because you have 2 industry people that have worked in the background with cosmetics and they have seen it all. If anyone should get this right, it should be the Barkers!!! Everything about this to me screams success (but that’s just my P.O.V.) and I sure hope that it is for their sake or they will become a joke in the industry. Either way, you will get the final grade from me…honest and upfront!!! Until then, we wait… (But on a side note) I love the name of the two lines. Beauty Equation sounds sexy yet sophisticated!!! BE Cosmestics sounds fresh and cute!!!
One thing is for sure…they will definitely keep it all in the family as I am sure that Nigel will be shooting all photos and his wife will be the lead makeup artist and you can’t go wrong with 2 professionals doing their thang!!! LOL. For more details, go to www.thegloss.com
So what say you Beauty Scholars??? Will you be eagerly anticipating the launch of Beauty Equation and BE Cosmetics??? What is your P.O.V.??? Share your thoughts below…
