Can You Restore Lashes?

A few months ago I received a sweet little surprise that I have been dying to try inside of my monthly beauty subscription box, Birchbox. It was the new Restorative Lash Treatment and Mascara by Ojon. It has been on my must-try list and I was considering purchasing this product just a few days before its surprise arrival. Can you say #Winning?

Just in case you are wondering about the brand Ojon, let me spill the beauty tea! As you know, the air is filled with smoke, smog and pollution, which cause damage to the hair along with regular styling, the sun, diet and stress. Ojon’s mission is to help you transform your hair to perfect health with their hair treatments formulated from a 500-year beauty secret from the remote regions of the rainforest in Central America. The key ingredient inside of the treatment is the golden elixir obtained from the nut of the Ojon tree.

The golden elixir is hand extracted precious oil with natural ingredients, which creates natural affinity for the hair to restore radiance, bounce and body. It also offers vibrancy to repair even the most damaged hair. The products are made with natural ingredients that are 100% essential oils. The products are made without parabens, mineral oils and other harmful ingredients.

Okay, so now you know all about Ojon and their mission, let me give you the Glam it or Slam it and my final grade!

The Glam: This product is pretty cool because it’s multifunctional and we all know I love products that serve more than one purpose. It’s a treatment on one side and mascara on the other. The treatment side conditions the lashes to give them life and yes, it did that. The conditioning treatment seemed to separate my lashes more than if I had applied mascara alone.

With Mascara (Brand X on the left and Ojon on the right)  and Restorative Lash Treatment

The Slam: The mascara side is supposed to offer long luscious come hither lashes but when I used it a few times, I got regular lashes and irritated eyes. The mascara side was a disappointment to say the least. Even with three coats, it was just blah. This was quite the disappointment because the conditioning side was nice. Boo…Hiss

No mascara or Restorative Lash Treatment

My final grade for the Restorative Lash Treatment by Ojon is 3 out of 5 smooches…MUAH. This multifunctional product is not so multifunctional after all. The conditioning side is good but the mascara, not so much. If I am going to pay $21 for mascara it better give me long, full luscious lashes that I can’t live without and won’t irritate my eyes plus the conditioning side should offer the benefit of growing my lashes…IJS! If you are interested in trying this mascara, head over to and make your purchase at your risk…LOL. Happy Shopping!

Dark Circles, Puffiness and Tired Eyes Be Gone

Last summer I was on the hunt to try a new brand of cosmetics, so off to Sephora I went. As luck would have it, there were two different brand representatives ready to assist me! My first stop was Laura Mercier for a quick touch up of powder, concealer and blush. The next brand was Marc Jacobs for a foundation match, mascara and lipstick. With so many products and so many choices, I didn’t know which brand to choose. As I walked around the store, I narrowed it down to what I needed the most. The winner was Laura Mercier!

Laura Mercier is the creator of the brand and a world-renowned makeup artist. She is the personal makeup artist to many celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker and Julia Roberts. She is best known for accentuating one’s natural beauty to create a flawless look. She started training as a painter at the age of 17. At some point, she decided to switch her talents from the canvas to the face. In 1996 she created her brand for women of all ages and skin types.

Now that you have a little background information on the brand, let me share the product I am reviewing. Today, I am reviewing the Secret Concealer. Here is the Glam: This concealer is high in pigment and helps to cover my dark circles from long sleepless nights. It does not settle into the fine lines around my eye area and it brightens to help diffuse the dark circles. It is long lasting, a little moisturizing but not oily looking. It is super easy to apply and a little goes a long way! It’s a natural look with a natural glow.

Here’s the Slam: When I applied it with a concealer brush, it was a little harder to blend and it looked a little cakey. However, I was able get a flawless look by dabbing a little on my finger and blending it that way.

In the past, my concealer of choice was MAC. Now, I love the Secret Concealer by Laura Mercier. My final grade is 5 out of 5 smooches…MUAH. If you are interested in purchasing this product, it is offered at Sephora and luxury department stores for $23.00. It is available in 12 shades and it will last even longer with the Translucent Loose Setting Powder. Happy concealing!

Universal High Pigment Shadows

*This post was originally posted on Rachel O. Beauty*

A few months ago I attended to The Makeup Show Chicago, which is the end all to be all for a beauty junkie like me as there are brands galore to showcase their products and industry icons to share their knowledge through workshops and seminars. It is so exciting but one could become overwhelmed with all the amazing sights to see and people to meet!!! However, I did not let that stop me…I made a plan of who, what, when and where I wanted to see and meet and then I quickly put that plan into action!!! LOL

During my exploration of new brands (at least for me)…I came across Magnolia Makeup, a beauty brand based out of New Awlins (and I say this with love in my most Southern Gal drawl…no, for real, I used to live in the South…LOL). They are devoted to color that is high in pigment and they believe in quality as well as fun for every occasion!!! Yep, this sounds like a brand I want to explore; so I did…*giggles*.

It is funny because I had this brand on my list to investigate but, before I could get to it, several of my blogger friends kept telling to make sure I stopped by Magnolia before I left…so I hoped that it would be all that and then some!!!

When I approached the booth, I was amazed at all the colors. I was like a kid in a candy store and the all the makeup were my sweet treats…LOL!!! Any who, as you can read, it was love at first sight but the true test will come during my trial of wearing the product for a few weeks. While there was so much to chose from, I was able to narrow my selection down to 3 eyeshadows and 2 lip colors in a pot to purchase (and believe me…that was hard to do)!!!

Today, I am only prepared to share my analysis on the Individual Pigment shadows and here is what I liked: I absolutely positively loved the pigments!!! While all you MAC girls are ranting and raving over their colors and pigments, I suggest you stop, look and listen to a new sheriff in town!!! Now, before you MAC junkies go all crazy on me, for the record, I’m not hating…IJS, give this brand a try because MAC is not the end all to be all when it comes to colors and pigments. Not only that, Magnolia is not as expensive as MAC and the overall quality is great!!! The loose pigments are easy to use and they will work on all skin tones. A little goes a long way and the color last a long time without creasing or fading…FTW!!!

Now, I know this sounds like a match made in makeup heaven but there are a few dislikes and here they are: I am not one for loose shadows and or powders as they can get a tad messy but this is not a deal breaker for me if the product is great (and this is…teehee)!!! I am not sure if the Individual Pigments are mineral based or not as there is nothing on the website or the product which indicates a yay or nay and to my understanding, loose shadows are mineral based. Again, this is not a deal breaker; inquiring minds would just like to know…LOL, IJS!!!

So after several weeks of the trial investigation, I have my final grade for you… I give the Individual Pigment shadows by Magnolia Makeup 5 out of 5 smooches…MUAH!!! If you are interested in purchasing the shadows, you can do so at for $10 each (the colors featured here are Truffle, Citrine and Gold Nugget). I hope you enjoy them as much as I do…Happy blending!!!

Liner and Lips With Glitter…Oh My

*This post was originally posted on Rachel O. Beauty*
I could not let another day go by without reviewing the brand Eye Kandy!!! I was gifted this product at The Makeup Show Chicago from the owner of the brand. Eye Kandy is a brand of glitter cosmetics that is safe to wear on the eyes and or lips. They offer a liquid adhesive base called Liquid Sugar, which helps the glitter adhere to your eyes or lips all day without flaking into your eyes or on your face.
As I walked around from booth to booth this brand literally and physically caught my eye because I love most things that glitter and or sparkle and Eye Kandy made my feet pump the brakes…LOL.
So there I was, standing in awe of the how the product can transform your eyes and lips in to something magical and sparkly in just a few seconds. I guess the Makeup Artist saw me drooling so she asked if I would like to give it a try. At first, I gave her a little nervous giggle and said no as I wanted to see how it worked on other people before I allowed her to try it on me. I also needed to ask a few questions before I allowed her to apply it on me like: Will it burn??? Is it drying??? Does it last all day??? Yada, yada, yada… You get the picture…right??? Right!!!
After five minutes of witnessing demos, the Makeup Artist asked again if I wanted to try and this time I said yes. Even though I was still a little nervous, I let her apply the Eye Kandy to my lips and just like that, they were transformed to a gorgeous glam ruby red just like Dorothy’s magical ruby slippers from the Wizard of Oz!!! Liner and lips with glitter…OH MY!!! (Tee-hee) As I walked around The Makeup Show with my new glam lippie, I received so many compliments from fellow makeup junkies; some I knew and some were kindred makeup spirits…LOL.

I have been wearing the glitter Cherry Bomb for the past couple of weeks and here is what I like: It does not flake and it is long lasting just like the website says!!! It even stayed on after dinner and I did not have to reapply. It turned up my lip color to another level that I like to call “Diva Glam”!!! It did not burn or irritate my lips and it is multifunctional!!! As you know, it can be worn on eyes and lips but what you did not know, is that it can be used it as a body glitter. Believe it not, it is not that messy; you will not have glitter all over the place because the Liquid Sugar bonds to the glitter very fast. Last but not least, you can wear it on top of any brand of cosmetics and it is easy to remove…FTW!!!

Although I have several reasons on why this product is so glam, there are a few things that I did not care for. The glitter felt a little heavy on my lips so it took a little time for me to get use to it. It takes a couple of minutes for the product to dry and sometimes I just want to keep it moving and not wait (I know, patience is a virtue but when you are in a hurry…(in my Sweet Brown voice, “Ain’t nobody got time for that”). LOL
Now that you know the pros and cons, let me tell you my final grade. I rate Eye Kandy Glitter Sprinkles 5 out of 5 smooches…MUAH!!! Even though there were a few cons, they were not deal breakers J. If you are interested in purchasing Eye Kandy, go to the cost is $7.50 for 1 or $24.95 for an Eye Kandy bag, which includes a glitter of your choice and a Liquid Sugar. Happy Shimmering!!!

Seeing Eye to Eye: A Beauty Interview with My Eye Doctor – Dr. Reynolds

A few weeks ago I had an appointment with my eye doctor and boy oh boy did she open my eyes (literally and figuratively) to some things that should just be common sense…but on that day, it was not so common to me…LOL. We talked about beauty and how it relates to eye care like when to toss those products and the damage they can cause if you hold on to them. Some things I knew and some were brand new. I hope this interview literally and figuratively open’s your eyes as it did mine 🙂
My Eye Doctor – Dr. Reynolds of Concept Eye Care is very informative and easy to understand. She cares about the health of her patients and wants to ensure they receive her all. So when I asked if I could interview her for my blog, she said absolutely!!! Thanks Dr. Reynolds…YOU ROCK!!! Beauty Scholars get ready for an eye opening experience from an expert!!!
The first tip blew my mind because I was just blind to the who, what, when and why I should not use generic eye care… Dr. Reynolds says you should not use generics because the technology is old. It is like using an old brick cell phone or an old school TV with an antenna…LOL. Or as I like to think, it is like using that old hard eyeliner from back in the day that you had to burn to make it glide on the eyes…yep, eye-opening…right??? Okay…don’t act like I was the only one who used to do this…LOL
Did you know that you should put contacts in before you apply your makeup??? Mmm, hmm…you sure do as this prevents eye infections…yep, some of us have been doing this all wrong, thinking that the eye shadow will fall into our eyes or the mascara will flake into the contacts. Here is what I do to prevent shadow from flaking: tap your eye shadow brush lightly (don’t blow on the brush and spread your nasty germs) on the back of your hand and the excess shadow will fall off. To prevent mascara flaking, make sure you don’t have a clump on the wand, if you do, wipe the excess on the tube and apply in a zigzag motion. If it continues to flake…buy a new brand as great brands do not flake…IJS!!!
Now, I have said this before but I am so excited that Dr. Reynolds has stated the obvious 🙂 change your eye makeup often!!! Every 6 months for liquids, every 3 months for mascaras, every 6 months for creams and every year for powders as the moisture, air and germs can cause infections. And wash your brushes every 2 weeks for the same reasons.
If you wear glasses, it is okay to apply your eye makeup a little heavier. You should also get the AR (ANTI-REFLECTING) Coating on your lenses as this will help the makeup show through more but don’t get too happy with your application technique unless you want to look like you belong on a ratchet reality show…LOL
OMG…did you know that you should not sleep with your contacts in your eyes if you suffer from dry eyes like me??? Yeah, I am a little guilty of this 🙂 because I just get lazy and fall asleep with the computer in my lap, makeup on the face and contacts in the eyes. Dr. Reynolds did give me the side eye o-0 …LOL as well as informed me that your contacts can get lost in the back of the eye and if they go too far…you will have to get them surgically removed (OUCH) and you can get an eye infection (YUK)!!! Note to self: come home, change clothes, wash face, remove contacts and repeat!!! Because in my Sweet Brown voice (Ain’t nobody got time for that)!!! IJS. Make sure you purchase the extended wear contacts to prevent this from happening.
Last but not least…change your contact lens case every month and rinse the case with hot water every night to keep you contacts clean and free of debris. You mean to tell me the reason my contacts bother me when I put them in my eyes is because I don’t clean the darn case…All this time I have been thinking that the brand I use sucks but it was really because I just didn’t know (don’t judge me, I now know and understand and my eyes are thanking me daily)!!! LOL
Here is a bonus tip that may sound basic but I don’t want you to make the same mistake that I maybe, well possibly made (I plead the 5th…I will not admit or deny if this has happened to me)…but, you should rinse the soap from your hands thoroughly and or not use anti-bacterial soap before you put your contacts in as this can burn the crap out of your eyes!!! Woo…just the thought of it makes me want to cry and gives me the shakes…LOL. Dr. Reynolds suggest that I (oops, you) 🙂 purchase a soap called OCuSOFT Hand Soap. It does not contain oils that will leave a film on the hand which can transfer to the contact lens and cause cloudy vision.
So there you have it Beauty Scholars…beauty tips for the eyes!!! I don’t know about you but this was truly an eye opening experience for me 🙂 Thanks Dr. Reynolds of Concept Eye Care located in Chicago, IL (Hyde Park area) for sharing your expert tips and shedding some light on beauty tips for the eyes!!!
