Spring Must-Have Beauty Picks For 2015

Out with the cold and in with the new; three cheers for Spring beauty and my recent trip to Sephora. As the flowers bloom so does the new season of beauty. And I am happy to report that I have a list of must haves for Spring 2015.

Contouring is the new wave in the beauty industry. You can give yourself a thinner nose or a perfect pout. You can make the illusion happen from the Contouring Magic section in Sephora. And if you’re not that savvy with enhancing your look, don’t worry; ask for a contour consultation with a Sephora beauty maven. Go head, get your contour on!

IMG_7316

Hourglass just made my heart skip a beat with these new Modernist Eyeshadow Palettes. Five harmonizing shades that give intensity, dimension and buildable color. This will go perfect with my Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Icon. This is luxury beauty at its best!

IMG_7312

Oh my Nars! These Dual Intensity Blush sets just gave me life. You can wear them dry for a subtle look or wet for a more intense look of a stain. I can’t wait to pair it with my Albatross Blush that I use a highlighter for the best shine, shimmer and glimmer power.

IMG_7315_2

I will always be photo-shoot ready for a selfie with the new Photo Angle Pure Pigment Gel Liner by Smashbox. Beautiful bold colors and no brush required, this gel liner will last me through the day and night with no smearing or flaking. I can’t wait to add this to my collection with my Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35.

IMG_7319

IMG_7317

I so love my Roller Lash by Benefit Cosmetics. It’s giving me lash power times ten. It curls, lengthens and adds depth to my lashes. It gives me an extra boost when I pair it with my Benefit They’re Real Mascara. No more little lashes for me; luxurious luscious lashes from now on. Ooh, la, lash, I love!

IMG_7548

I can’t wait to get my hands on the new Skin Equalizer Primer by Make Up For Ever. This innovative technology is truly the, “next generation of primers”. This primer will equalize any skin tone or concern by balancing toning and smoothing the skin’s texture. This will make a great addition to my current collection of products. It’s truly a crime not to prime!

IMG_7321_2

Once I tried the Genius Ultimate Anti-Aging Melting Cleanser by Algenist in the store, I was sold! This soap-free cleanser starts off as oil and lathers into a lightweight milky foam. It washes away all the dirt, debris and makeup from the day. Dear Algenist, I’m smitten with this beauty!

IMG_7322_2

Wow is all that I can say about these daily cleansers from GlamGlow. These unisex cleansers are for all ages and skin types. They start off as a mud and then just like that…voila’ they turn into a foam. Yep, sign me up so I can add this to my daytime skin regimen.

IMG_7323_2

Last but certainly not least. Murad has the answer to all my anti-aging beauty prayers in a one step solution with Invisiblur Perfecting Shield. This anti-aging bottle of perfection doesn’t just fight the signs of aging it also has an SPF. But wait, there’s more…it feels like silk and the results are immediate. I know because I tried it on my hand in the store and I was in awe; it was love at first pump. Murad tested and developed; Beauty School Scarlet approved!

Photo Finish Shadow Primer

A few weeks ago I popped in to a Sephora to find new products to try. First, I did a once over on the store browsing each and every brand one by one saving some of my favorites for last. The first product that caught my eye was from Smashbox. It’s called 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer. And today, I am going to give you The Glam it, The Slam it and My Final Grade!

IMG_5592

Since I have reviewed Smashbox products before, I won’t give you the beauty 411; instead, I am going to tell you why Smashbox is my beauty crush. They have innovative products that are highly pigmented with great staying power and all products are photo-shoot ready! And what girl doesn’t like a makeup that makes her selfie shine flawlessly? 🙂

Now that you have a better understanding on my beauty brand crush, let me share The Glam: This shadow primer keeps your regular dull boring eye shades from creasing and it makes the color look more vibrant. It’s able to withstand heat, humidity and fading over a 24 hour period (and I know because I tested it) LOL

IMG_5598

I wore the primer on a recent trip to Miami and it helped my shadow stay in tact from early morning hours, beach time and to a very late night party. The weather was hot, steamy and humid all at once and my shadow lasted the entire day and night. Now don’t go judging how I kept on my shadow for the entire day and night…you’ve been there and done that too! I am not the only one. LOL But I digress…on to the slam!

IMG_5599

The Slam: You have to use a pinch and let the primer dry. If you don’t, your eye shadow will be hard to blend. You have to wear it alone and not with a concealer. I tried it with my concealer and it smeared. My eyelids felt a little dry after I applied the primer 🙁

IMG_5593

My Final Grade for the 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer by Smashbox is 4 out of 5 smooches…MUAH! I like that my eye shadow lasted all day long without looking oily and creasing in the hot Miami sun. I just wish that it would dry faster to avoid the wait on applying my shadow.

If you are interested in purchasing the 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer by Smashbox, head our to your local Sephora or get it on line at smashbox.com for $20. Happy Priming!

Tips to Get Free or Low Cost Beauty Services and Products

Are you on a beauty budget? Do you need to find ways to keep up with your beauty routine without paying those high prices? If the answer is yes, keep reading! I’m going to share some secret and not so secret beauty saving tips!

1. Get a Free Mani: Thanks to one of my BFF’s who’s a frugalista…she told me about one of the many times she has gotten a free mani courtesy of Sephora! Yep, that’s right…she goes over to the nail polish bar with her mani tools and uses their polish and remover, polishes all ten fingers and waits for them to dry as she walks around. GENIUS!

IMG_0857

2. Try Before You Buy: You are looking for a new cleanser, mask and moisturizer but you are on a budget and can only afford one. Get some little samples from Sephora to try before you buy. Now, I must warn you that they will not last super long but they may last until the next paycheck. SCORE!IMG_5612

3. Get a Free Makeover: Yes, free! Sephora has beauty brand reps inside the store and they are there to offer makeovers and sell products. Well, the secret is: they don’t charge you for the makeover; they get paid regardless and get credit for the number of products they sell (unless it’s a major event). A Sephora rep will charge you a sitting fee, which goes towards your purchase unless you are looking for something simple like a foundation match. YAASS!IMG_3887

4. Get Spa Services for Next to Nothing: Schedule a service at a beauty school. They offer services for half the price or less than a spa and the students need the practice. They are cleaner and safer than some of the corner nail salons because they have to teach the students to practice safe hygiene standards. So go get your spa on for $10 -$20! CHACHING!IMG_5615

5. Get Free Products: Join the Sephora VIB Club (it’s free to join) and receive free sample size products for every 100 or 500 points. You can also get a little sample package of products on your birthday! YAY!IMG_5616

6. Enter a Beauty Giveaway: Some beauty blogs host giveaways but shefinds.com and beautystat.com usually offer a weekly giveaway. Or you can also follow your favorite brand on FB or IG for beauty contest and giveaways! WINNING!

IMG_5608

So there you have it…my tips to get free or low cost beauty services or products! Do you have a fave? What are you going to try first? If you have one to share that I may have missed, comment below! Happy Saving! MUAH

When Travelmate Mask – A Product Review

Last year when I was traveling every week, my skin was extremely dehydrated, dry and irritated similar to what it has been like this winter. I knew I needed something to hydrate and nourish it. I wanted something to soothe my skin and bring it back to life…back to reality! That’s when I stumbled upon the mask When Travelmate and today, I am going to give you the beauty 411.

IMG_2991

In case you have never heard of the brand When, here’s a little info on the who, the what and the why. When, is a facemask on a high quality sheet of paper with the ingredients infused on the mask for a variety of skin issues. They offer mask for traveling, a pre makeup base, restoring, refreshing and soothing. They have the exact mask for “When” you need it!

Even though I purchased the When Travelmate Mask last year, I just started using it recently because of the harsh cold blustery winter weather we have been experiencing here in the Chicago area.  It just seems like the winter weather will not go away!

IMG_2992

Here’s the Glam: It soothed my super dry skin, which was peeling and chapped from the weather. It offered a cooling yet relaxing sensation on my face. It felt so good that I did not want to take it off. My skin was moisturized and comfortable; the mask was like a drink of cool water on a hot summer day. The mask is made without Parabens, Sulfates or Phthalates and made with grapefruit seed; bamboo stem and pine leaf extracts to help keep the skin healthy. I was sold with how it felt and all of the amazing ingredients!

IMG_2993

Here’s the Slam: While this is not a deal breaker, I could not tell what the product was or how it functioned by looking at the packaging. I had to ask a Sephora Cast Member about it. Not that I will always be able to tell what a product does by looking at the packaging but…this offered no clues whatsoever and it left me sort of confused, scratching my head then asking for help.

Other than the packaging not telling the story of the product, there is nothing bad that I can say about the mask. It’s just everything!

My final grade for the Travelmate Mask by When is 5 out of 5 smooches…MUAH! This mask felt so amazing on my skin the first time that I fell asleep wearing it the second time…LOL. If you are interested in purchasing this product, you can find a box of four packets at Sephora for $28.00. Happy Masking!

Dark Circles, Puffiness and Tired Eyes Be Gone

Last summer I was on the hunt to try a new brand of cosmetics, so off to Sephora I went. As luck would have it, there were two different brand representatives ready to assist me! My first stop was Laura Mercier for a quick touch up of powder, concealer and blush. The next brand was Marc Jacobs for a foundation match, mascara and lipstick. With so many products and so many choices, I didn’t know which brand to choose. As I walked around the store, I narrowed it down to what I needed the most. The winner was Laura Mercier!

IMG_2606

Laura Mercier is the creator of the brand and a world-renowned makeup artist. She is the personal makeup artist to many celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker and Julia Roberts. She is best known for accentuating one’s natural beauty to create a flawless look. She started training as a painter at the age of 17. At some point, she decided to switch her talents from the canvas to the face. In 1996 she created her brand for women of all ages and skin types.

IMG_2607

Now that you have a little background information on the brand, let me share the product I am reviewing. Today, I am reviewing the Secret Concealer. Here is the Glam: This concealer is high in pigment and helps to cover my dark circles from long sleepless nights. It does not settle into the fine lines around my eye area and it brightens to help diffuse the dark circles. It is long lasting, a little moisturizing but not oily looking. It is super easy to apply and a little goes a long way! It’s a natural look with a natural glow.

IMG_2609

Here’s the Slam: When I applied it with a concealer brush, it was a little harder to blend and it looked a little cakey. However, I was able get a flawless look by dabbing a little on my finger and blending it that way.

IMG_2608

In the past, my concealer of choice was MAC. Now, I love the Secret Concealer by Laura Mercier. My final grade is 5 out of 5 smooches…MUAH. If you are interested in purchasing this product, it is offered at Sephora and luxury department stores for $23.00. It is available in 12 shades and it will last even longer with the Translucent Loose Setting Powder. Happy concealing!

Beauty Week in Review 11.2.13

Beauty Week in Review 11.2.13

Hey Beauty Scholars!!! Welcome to the 3rd edition of the Beauty Week in Review!!! I do realize that this should be the 4th installment but the news in terms of beauty the week before was bleak to say the least…LOL!!! This week is a little livelier; so let’s get this party started!!!

Sephora Americas has a named Calvin McDonald as the new CEO.  Now this is interesting because McDonald comes from Sears Canada where he was the President and CEO. Don’t judge a book a by its cover until you know the whole story :-). McDonald has been very successful in Canada with Sears with positive store comp sales for three quarters in a row for the first time in seven years as well as his past success with other companies!!! So don’t worry Sephora loyalist…the company sounds it’s in great hands with more innovative thinking to come. Stay tuned…I know I will!!!

Beautystat.com re-launched its site with an ecommerce portion section added this week. The site was previously geared toward social networking and blogging but now, it has new features!!! You can create a profile, make a wish list, and purchase products, read reviews, pin products as well as other things. I like the new site but I also miss the old one. It is worth taking a ride or two around the block, so go check it out and let me know what you think!!!

Avon is taking a local stand for marketing and I love it!!! Instead of a one face fits all for beauty, they are looking to take local celebrities and keep the same product and advertising with a local message. This will position the brand to become more relevant to the culture in a particular market…i.e., US or Brazil. This totally makes sense to me and I am excited to see the end result!!! Good luck Avon!!!

Japonesque, who is the guru of beauty tools and best known for their tweezers, is expanding the brand with color cosmetics. WOW…this is super exciting. The date was set for October 27th in Ulta with 220 stores and to expand with another 150 doors in March. Side note: I think I am going to take a break and head over to my local Ulta for some beauty play time today…giggles!!! The products are priced from $18 -$36 with very vivid colors for the eyes, lips and face. FYI…if you live in the UK, the brand is also launching in John Lewis.

UK brand Rimmel is changing its focus to eyes. Mascara seems to be driving the overall sales for the brand so why not make it the focus. They are now ranked as the 4th largest mascara brand in the mass market!!! They have also updated the shadows; they have a cream formulation that is long lasting and easy to work with. Sounds like the eyes have it…LOL and I am going to see what they hype is all about with reviews to come…of course!!! 🙂

L’Oreal names Blake Lively as the new Brand Ambassador. This is exciting to me, as I really like Blake; I have loved her style since the 1st season of Gossip Girl (don’t judge me…she has style and the show was good) LOL.

The brand Toppik, best known for their hair fiber products, launches hair supplements for growth. They will be adding Hair Nutrition 2-in-1 Capsules and other products later this year that will also promote hair growth. Products are now available at Sally’s Beauty Supply, a 30-day supply for $19.95 and Ulta early next year. While I am not down with taking supplements, I am interested in the Toppik Hair Regrowth Treatment – a topical treatment to be launched next year!!!

Jay Z is set to launch his 1st fragrance for men. Well, it was only a matter of time as his wife Bey has experienced much success with her scents. November 20th is the launch date at Barney’s to be followed up with a November 29th date in Macy’s, Sephora, Nordstrom, Belk, Bon-Ton and Ulta. Just in time for the holiday season!!!

MAC names Rihanna as the new Viva Glam Spokesperson for 2014!!! Well…it only makes sense as RiRi Woo was a best seller and sold out in most stores as well as on-line during its initial launch. But, I have to wonder, is it better to have the RiRi brand as an exclusive limited edition or as the Spokesperson for the brand??? Hmm…I guess only time will tell. Don’t get me wrong, I love her style and trend setting ways but will people get bored seeing her as the face of the brand for the whole year??? What are your thoughts???

So there you have it Beauty Scholars…this weeks beauty news!!! What do you think??? Does any of this newness excite you???

The Queen of Exfoliators

IMG_1034

A few months ago on one of my many trips to Sephora, I was introduced to a new product called FIRMx Peeling Gel by Peter Thomas Roth. Now, I was not in the market for a new exfoliator but one of the Cast Members who knows me (don’t judge me) raved about how much she loved this product and its multifunctional uses…needless to say, she had me at the word multifunctional…LOL.

IMG_1032

So there I was listening to one of my favorite Cast Members share her testimony on the FIRMx Peeling Gel but before we get down to the nitty gritty, let me give you a little background information on the brand. Peter Thomas Roth A.K.A. PTR has been a part of the beauty industry since birth sort to speak; his family owned and operated two spas in the early 1800’s and 1900’s in Hungary. And when he launched his company in 1993, he used the basic soothing and healing philosophies from the many muds found in the Hungarian thermal springs. PTR also wanted to find quality products with innovative technology for acne and anti-aging.  Today, the brand has 100’s of products with breakthrough formulas and astonishing results.

Okay, so now that you have been formally introduced, let’s get down to the nittty gritty of the likes and dislikes!!! I like  (no, let me change that) love how this product exfoliates. It removes the dead skin cells like none other and leaves the skin feeling like silk!!! I felt like my face was kind of like a snake that sheds its skin.  The gel was so amazing that I used it on my hands and feet as the Cast Member suggested. Yep…that’s right, this gel works on the feet too!!! Mmm, hmm…it left my heels feeling extra soft…better than the best pedi I ever had!!! LBVS. It is not drying and it works on my sensitive skin!!! FTW. And if that was not enough, it was easy to use and it did not smell. The dead skin rolls right off and reveals the newest of new skin…all I can do is scream, YES!!! Giggles

IMG_1031

So now that you know all the good stuff, let me share the bad… Oh wait, I could not find anything bad about this product because it gave my skin life and it is just amazeballs!!! Yes, this multifunctional exfoliator is just…EVERYTHING!!!

IMG_1033

My final grade for the FIRMx Peeling Gel by Peter Thomas Roth is 5 out of 5 smooches…MUAH!!! Thank you Mr. PTR for your invention as I am now in love. You can purchase the FIRMx Peeling Gel at Sephora or peterthomasroth.com for $48. Yes, I know it is a little steep but you pay for what you get and this exfoliator is “Grade A” quality and worth every single penny!!! I can understand why it won the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval…Happy exfoliating…MUAH

IMG_1006

Hey Beauty Scholars I am starting something new to help keep you in the loop of all things beauty!!! Starting today and every Saturday, I will post a week in review to let you know about the happening things in the beauty industry. Now you will be in the know too!!!

Let’s get started:

For all my nail lovers, Revlon gets an upgrade and partners with powerhouse designer Marchesa for Nail Art 3D Jewel Appliques for $9.99

A custom scent made by you!!! That ‘s right, Fred Segal is launching a DIY fragrance kit in November by layering rollerball scents on your skin until you find your signature scent made for you by you!!! The kit will cost $150 and refills will cost $38. If you don’t live near a Fred Segal, don’t worry because Space NK will offer them in late November.

For all my online shoppers and luxury brand Beauty Scholars!!! Amazon has launched a prestige section on their site with all the bells and whistles that is sure to delight…LOL. With the new luxury beauty tab, you can shop by feature, category, trend, brand, favorites or collections.

One of my favorite beauty brands, Molton Brown has opened an 843 square-foot space US-Flagship store in NYC on Madison Ave. While I am excited for them, I just hope that Chicago is next on the list as that would make me a very happy girl!!! IJS…I can never have enough good smelling luxury body products in my beauty closet.

As you know, earlier this week I reported that Sephora launched its new nail line called Formula X. Check out the details here.

The beauty brand Inglot, who is known for its vibrant colors, is entering the world of skincare starting with a line of multi-action toners. They are also looking to open 25 doors by the end of the year.

Need a new look??? Try ModiFace, a website which offers virtual makeovers with hair, makeup and even skincare.

Did you know Clarisonic is adding a pedi brush head-smoothing disc to the line??? Yep, they are hoping that this will do to the face what the original has done for the face. All for the low price of $199.  I’m not sold yet but it sure sounds interesting.

Elf Cosmetics is joining the box subscription arena. This box will be sent out every 8 weeks to include seasonal colors and products with a theme to work on all skin tones. There are payment options from a monthly subscription of $19.99 or annual at $199.94.

And last but not least, Bliss is launching a new skincare range with anti aging benefits. The new line will debut on Oct 20th with price ranges from $60 – $160 to be sold in Bliss Spas, online and exclusive high-end third party spas and cruise ships. The products will be 99% water-free, which means the ingredients will deliver major results. Om my…I can’t wait to try, test and review this for you, as I am a Bliss fan!!!

Formula X by Sephora A New Brand of Nail Polish

A few days ago I stopped in Sephora to pick up 1 thing… my favorite brow pencil from Hour Glass Cosmetics and the new nail polish setup of the Formula X by Sephora sidetracked me. This is the brand I have been telling you about since the spring!!! It’s allegedly the reason Sephora ended their relationship with O.P.I.

IMG_0923

This polish is reportedly the end all to be all for nail lovers. It is supposed to be chip-free, one coat, high shine polish that is resistant to both water and detergent!!! Yep, that’s right…it’s supposed to be the Bentley of nail polishes.  In fact, one of the cast members (beauty advisor’s) said that she had been wearing her polish for 7 days and there were no chips in sight after careful inspection (from me of course). Don’t worry ladies because I’ll be the judge and jury on the final results before you make your purchase…LOL.

In case you are wondering how all this is possible, from my understanding, you have to purchase the special cleanse polish to get the full affect. And then there is the prime polish, the color you choose and the shine. However, they have a little kit where you can purchase the cleanser, primer, the shine and you pick your color.

IMG_0916

But before I try it and review it, I must tell you the assortment of colors (200+) is amazing and I was quite impressed!!! They also had a few kits to choose from ranging from $39 – $59.  And they have nail stickers as well as polishes with embellishments.

IMG_0922

Now before you go running to your nearest Sephora…please note that the actual launch is not until October 10th. So don’t be mad if you go tomorrow and it is not available…just wait a few more days! 🙂 BTW…the polish ranges from $10.50 – $12.50 per bottle. The stickers are $15 and the treatments are $14.

IMG_0921

So what are your thoughts??? Are you adding the date to your calendar??? I picked up a pack from a store with an early launch. Giggles
